O vício também não se limita ao jogo. Também pode acontecer com álcool, fumo e pornografia.”

A decisão da Bélgica levanta questões importantes sobre a percepção de maturidade dos jovens adultos. Segundo Raaff, é necessária uma abordagem mais holística – uma que trate todos os comportamentos de risco de forma igual.

“Precisamos de um debate global mais amplo sobre a idade legal. Se confiamos em jovens de 18 anos dirigindo, fumando, consumindo álcool e acessando pornografia, por que o jogo deveria ser tratado de forma diferente? Dennoch erlauben wir 18–Jährigen und in einigen Ländern sogar noch jüngeren Menschen das Fahren. Die Sucht ist auch nicht auf das Glücksspiel beschränkt. Sie kann auch in Bezug auf Alkohol, Rauchen und Pornos auftreten.“

Die Entscheidung Belgiens wirft wichtige Fragen über die wahrgenommene Reife junger Erwachsener auf. Raaff sagte, dass ein ganzheitlicherer Ansatz erforderlich ist – einer, der alle riskanten Verhaltensweisen gleich behandelt.

The move sets Belgium apart from other EU countries like Sweden, Germany, Finland, and Austria, where the legal gambling age is 18.

“What’s clear is that 18–year–olds in most countries are allowed access pornography. So, this is the perceived maturity level despite the dangers online,” said Raaff.

“Alcohol poses huge health risks, and driving a vehicle requires even more responsibility with potential life–threatening consequences, still, we allow 18–year–olds, and in some nations, even younger people to drive. Addiction is also not limited to gambling. It can also happen with alcohol, smoking, and porn.”

Belgium's decision raises key questions about the perceived maturity of young adults. Raaff said a more holistic approach is needed – one that addresses all risky behaviors the same.

“We need a broader global debate about legal age. If we trust 18–year–olds driving, smoking, consuming alcohol, and accessing porn, why should gambling be treated differently? Protecting young adults means taking the same step. We also need to recognize that maturity levels do not change much between 18 and 21. By aligning these regulatory gaps, we will create a more realistic framework.”

RIAD, Saudi–Arabien, Sept. 28, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Seine Knigliche Hoheit Kronprinz Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Premierminister und Vorsitzender von Soudah Development, hat den Masterplan zur Entwicklung von Soudah und Teilen von Rijal Almaa zu Soudah Peaks – einem luxurisen Bergtourismusziel in 3.015 Metern Hhe auf dem hchsten Gipfel Saudi–Arabiens – vorgestellt.
